The National Lipid Association (NLA) is dedicated to reducing mortality from cardiovascular disease by providing research and educational programs to healthcare professionals who manage patients with elevated cholesterol levels.
As a multidisciplinary non-profit association, the NLA represents more than 1,800 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, dieticians and their practices. Our members attend scientific conferences and benefit from educational programs on dyslipidemia and managing patients with lipid disease. We present data on an array of effective therapies available to control cholesterol including diet, exercise and pharmacologic agents.
Moreover, the NLA works to establish the specialty of lipidology and the management of patients with lipid disorders as a national priority in medicine. The organization has four recognized chapters and is in the process of establishing its fifth regional chapter.
Grants from industry are routinely requested as a means to pay for education programs and activities. Therefore, the NLA has embraced ethics and financial disclosure guidelines of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, the PhRMA Guidelines, the OIG statements, and the AMA regarding ethical behavior of physicians in addition to its own strict guidelines regarding relationships with industry.
